According to reports in Scotland, Liverpool are demanding £17million for Xherdan Shaqiri after Rangers FC made a move for the attacking midfielder.
The 28-year-old Switzerland international has struggled for regular game time during his spell at Anfield and decided to leave the club in winter.
“Nobody likes to sit on the bench.
“It’s clear that I want more time. I have to look at the situation and find a solution.”
Steven Gerrard has made the former Bayern Munich man his top target for January’s transfer window, after Anfield club slapped a £13m price tag on Shaqiri.
The midfielder’s ability was never in question at the club and he has made some important contributions, including a memorable double against Manchester United with made the Mancunians sack Jose Mourinho and his display against FC Barcelona in the Champions League semi final last season.
Steven Gerrard is building something special at Rangers and currently sits at the top of the table of Scottish Premiership, but Celtic are in a good form as well and the former Liverpool captain wants to boost their chances to win the title.
After adding 37 years old Defoe to his team, who currently tops the goalscorers chart in the league, Shaqiri’s transfer will massively boost their attack and add some sauce to them.
Shaqiri who joined the Reds from Stoke City has made 34 appearances for Liverpool in total in which he managed to score 6 goals and played a huge part in Liverpool’s Champions League glory last season.
